Weekend Work

Another weekend is over...le sigh. The older I get, the faster time seems to fly by. Some fun, some knitting, some baking, and some cleaning was done over the past few days.

On Saturday the lovely Judy from my knitting group invited me and a few other girls from the group over for a fashion overhaul on her wardrobe and dinner. I couldn't make it an all day thing unfortunately, as Brett was working and there was no one to babysit the munchkin, but I did manage to go for dinner. I had so much fun! The last time I had a girls' night was back in February, when my friend Angela lived in Victoria and our other friend, Andrea came for a visit. How sad is that? I guess that's what happens when you move to a new town and have a baby before you get the chance to make any real friends. Anyhoo, we had a blast drinking wine, a special port that tasted like chocolate (!), eating, chatting, laughing, and even some knitting was thrown into the mix! Aside from pointing and laughing at Brett and his crazy antics (and sometimes at my son), I don't think I've laughed that hard in ages! Thanks ladies for such a fabulous time! We must do that on a regular basis!

I did a lot of knitting too this weekend. Lately I've been dividing my knitting time into 3 parts so that I can work on 3 projects, a few rows at a time. I feel more productive that way. What I really should have done was finish the pirate sweater, since my wee one's first birthday is this Friday!

Which brings me to baking. I did some "test baking" for the aforementioned little one's big day. First I baked vanilla cupcakes using the recipe that Kat shared on her blog, which you can find here. They were yummy but then the second batch got botched. As I've mentioned several times, I have a rogue oven that I seriously want to attack, all Office Space-with-the-printer like. The first batch of cupcakes came out great, the second batch was perfect on top, unbaked in the middle, and burned black at the bottom. And I didn't even do anything different! Stupid oven. Anyways, back to the baking...Brett was surprised that I was going to serve vanilla cupcakes, seeing how this would be our son's first taste at sweets he thought I would go all out and make chocolate cupcakes. After some thought, I realized he was right. Why should I deny my son his first taste of chocolate on his first birthday? I would bite the person that would deny me chocolate, so why would I do such injustice to my own son?? So I made my usual chocolate cupcake recipe, and even though I've made them several times before, I had to make sure the oven could handle it. And it did.

And last, Brett and I did a major cleaning of the house. Brett will be working late and long hours all week and won't be able to help me get the house in tip top shape for the birthday party. So earlier today was spent cleaning and soothing the kidlet, who gets upset and cries whenever the vacuum is turned on.

So that was our weekend here. I have a few days before the munchkin's big day and so much stuff still left to do. I have a feeling I'll be having a lot of sleepless nights, running around, and last minute sewing and knitting to do...

So on that note, I hope y'all have a great week!

  1. I'm glad you liked the cupcake recipe. Bummer about the second batch though. I can't wait to see the pirate jumper when it is finished.

  2. Thanks for sharing them Kat! The second batch, I still have no idea what in the world happened. If I could only convince my landlord that I need a new oven...I hate that wretched thing!
