Finished: Simply Neopolitan Socks

Neopolitan Socks
Look! Another FO!! I know, 2 FOs in one week?? Pure craziness I tell you! Anyways, there's really not much to say about these. Other than the fact that it took me forever to get them done. I mentioned in this post that one of the reasons why it took me so long to finish them was due to the stinky needles that I was originally using. Since I switched them over to non-stinky Knit Picks needles the knitting went by pretty fast, but then I had set them aside to do more exciting projects. Then on Monday I needed a small, simple, and mindless project to take with me to work on during my breaks at work. I quickly grabbed these socks, shoved them into my bag, and went to work.

When I finally took them out I realized that all the second sock needed was a few more rows in pattern and then the cuff and it would be done. Why didn't I realize this before? You mean, I could've had these finished ages ago?? So by the time I left work on Monday I had a finished pair of socks! Yay!

Unfortunately because so much time had by between when I first started these socks to when I started the second sock, the fit and the heels don't really match. My tension loosened up a bit for the second sock and the first is a tad tight to put on. I'm not sure if this is because each sock was knit with a different needle or if my gauge has loosened up over time, or a combo of both. As for the heel, on the first sock I got really impatient and had started the lace pattern a bit too early so if I were to wear these with normal shoes the lace could get messed up with wear. I can foresee holes already. That's why I think these will be worn with boots only socks. The second sock I knew better and had started the lace well above the heel line, which I'm sure you can see in the photo above. This doesn't bug me, and I highly doubt anyone will notice when I wear them unless you're inspecting my feet, and that's just creepy.

Again, I used Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off for the cuffs. I can't sing enough praises for this bind off! Not only does it make for a really stretchy cuff and springs back to shape perfectly, but it makes the bind off look so clean and polished looking.
Overall I'm pretty happy with these socks. Although in hindsight I think I made a poor match up of yarn to pattern. Don't get me wrong, I love both, I just don't think they should have been paired up together. I think the simple lace pattern is lost in the variegated colours of the yarn, and I should have used a semi-tonal or solid coloured yarn to bring out that pattern. Oh well! Now I know better for next time! Now, the question is: what sock pattern to do next??
