From Truck To Legend

A few months ago Brett discovered that Toyota Canada was holding a contest for a brand new 2010 4Runner Trail Edition. Unlike most contests, where you simply enter your name and other details to become a contestant, this contest entails that you submit a video about why and what you love about trucks. If you know Brett you'd know these 3 things: Brett loves to enter contests and regularly enters any and all contests that he stumbles upon; Brett loves to make videos; and Brett loves his Toyota 4Runner and is a huge fan of Toyota in general. Suffice to say that this contest is absolutely perfect for him! You better believe that Brett went to work right away on his video entry.

I have to admit that I'm a fan of Brett's truck. Not only has it served us well, but I love being able to take the top off for the entire summer and be able to ride around in the cool breeze with the sun shining on my back. Most of all, I love being able to sit in the backseat when the top is off and thoroughly enjoy having to climb up the tire in order to get into the back all Dukes of Hazzard styles. Every time Brett talks about selling the truck so that he can get a newer, more kidlet-friendly one, a part of me gets extremely sad. I love this truck as much as Brett does (even though it smells like wet dog permanently!) and I know how much this truck means to him and the fact that this model is hard to come by nowadays makes me wish I could win the lottery so that we could afford another truck without having to sacrifice this one.

Unfortunately, ol' McClane (Brett's name for the truck) is slowly breaking down (she is 23 years old, after all!) and not a month goes by where something needs to get fixed or replaced. It would be nice to be able to go on a road trip without worry about whether or not if the truck is going to make it or better yet, if it'll even make it up a simple hill! Memories of 2 summers ago enters my mind: we were on our way back to Victoria from visiting family in the Kootenays when we got stuck going up a hill just outside of the Okanagan. When I say stuck, I mean we started up the hill at a good speed but was quickly decelerating to a steady speed of 45 km on a 90 km highway. We were lucky that we had yet to run into any other motorists and were exercising our useless brainwaves in trying to will the truck to go faster. Needless to say the truck ended up decelerating another 5 km and Brett and I decided to just pretend we were in a row boat and proceeded to make rowing motions. Before we knew it a car came flying out from behind to pass us, but before they did the laughing driver gave us a thumbs up and sped away. We did no further rowing actions for the rest of the drive.

Anyways, if you would like to view and vote for Brett's video (and help us win a new truck that actually works!!) you can check it out here.
You can vote once a day per computer for the next 2 months. Don't be fooled by the professional looking quality of the video, which seems to make other contestants and voters think and claim that we have loads of money if we can afford to make such a professional video and therefore don't need to win a new vehicle. Yeah, no. Brett lucked out and happened to be talking to the right people at the right time, cause one of his students turned out to be a film maker and had offered his services in exchange for the rights to include the video in his portfolio. Also, don't let the appearance of the truck fool you either. It's amazing what a good wash and lots of wax can do!

Again, check it out here and vote! Thanks Blogging Peeps!
