Whip It!

Brett found this trailer last night and thought I would like it. He was wrong. I LOVE it!!

Whip It is based off the book Derby Girl by Shauna Cross, who is a roller derby girl herself. The movie stars Ellen Page, who plays Bliss Cavendar, an indie-rock loving misfit who finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin, Texas.

From what I've seen and read, this movie is based on the time when derby was just starting up in the "motherland" of Texas, before the game started to spread all over the world. And for those of you who don't know much about derby, the movie is named after a derby technique where one skater uses another skater’s momentum to propel herself, usually to get ahead of the pack and to score points.

I seriously can't wait for this to come out. It'll be in theatres October 9, 2009. So watch out for it!
